Lion Monument Lucerne: the memorial

The Lion Monument in Lucerne is a memorial to the Swiss Guards who fell in 1792 when the Tuileries in Paris was stormed. It is carved into a rock face above a quiet pond, and it is a place of remembrance as much as a sight. A respectful tone suits the site.

Entry is free. The monument is about 15 minutes on foot from the station and the old town. If you prefer to ride, bus 1 or 19 goes to the stop Löwenplatz. From the old town you can combine the visit with the Chapel Bridge and the old town route.

About the walking tour

What the listing says, and what it leaves open.

The walking tour offered here lasts 2 hours and takes at most 15 people per guide. It covers the main sights of the city. The Lion Monument is not named in what the booking includes, so do not count on it as a stop. If the monument is your main goal, you can walk or ride there on your own and add the tour for the rest of the old town.

Glacier Garden

Prices, hours and the question of children's ages.

The Glacier Garden (Gletschergarten) is a sensible second stop for rainy or cold days. The adult ticket for visitors aged 16 and over costs CHF 24. Apprentices, students and seniors pay CHF 18, children aged 6 to 15 pay CHF 12, and children under 6 enter free. A generation ticket costs CHF 60 for 2 adults with up to 5 children, or CHF 45 for 1 adult with up to 5 children.

From April to October the garden is open from 10 to 18, and from November to March from 10 to 17. Group visits of 10 paying guests or more and school classes register in advance. Reduced tickets for guest cards and museum passes are only available at the ticket desk. The age limits for children are worded differently in different places, so clarify borderline cases at the desk when you buy tickets. The garden takes cards, Twint and cash.

Bourbaki Panorama

A circular painting from 1881.

The Bourbaki Panorama shows a circular painting from 1881 that is 113 metres long and 9 metres high. It tells of the internment of French soldiers in Switzerland in 1871. Admission is CHF 15 for adults, CHF 12 for students, seniors, disability pension holders and military, and CHF 7 for children from 6 to under 16. The Swiss Travel Pass gives free entry.

You reach the platform by a staffed stair lift over the 2 floors. From April to October the panorama is open from 10 to 18 and from November to March from 10 to 17. On 24 and 31 December 2026 it opens from 10 to 14, and on 25 December it is closed.
