Season calendar 2026
People ask for the best time to visit Lucerne and expect a month. We do not name one, because the answer depends on your plan. A lake cruise, a mountain trip and a museum day each have their own season, so this page lists what runs and when, with dates for 2026. It is a status of 1 November 2026 and not a permanent rule.
About the weather: the national weather service works with the normal period 1991 to 2020, which are long-term averages and not a forecast. We do not quote monthly temperatures or rainfall, so check a current forecast before you go.
A Rigi day pass for any season

Lake ships
The winter timetable runs from 19.10.2026 to 16.04.2027. The winter day pass costs 53 CHF in second class and is valid from 01.11. to 31.03. A special timetable applies on 04.11.2026 for the Rütli shooting. Details are on the cruise page.
Pilatus
The cogwheel railway from Alpnachstad runs until 29.11.2026. The Kriens gondola and aerial cableway are in revision from 19.10. to 27.11.2026, and the ship from Lucerne to Alpnachstad stopped on 19.10.2026. A full Golden Round Trip is therefore not planned for November.
Stanserhorn
The season ends on 22.11.2026.
Rigi
Kräbel to Scheidegg is in revision on weekdays from 02.11. to 13.11.2026. Weggis to Kaltbad follows on weekdays from 16.11. to 27.11.2026. Obergschwend to Burggeist is in revision from 16.11. to 03.12.2026. See Mount Rigi.
Titlis
The Rotair is closed until 11.12.2026 and replaced by Titlis Connect. The funicular between Engelberg and Gerschnialp is closed from 02.11. to 13.11.2026.
Verkehrshaus
In the winter half-year the museum opens from 10 to 17.
The mineral baths at Rigi Kaltbad take their operating break from 23.11. to 27.11.2026, which matters if you want to use the combined ticket above. It includes the Rigi railways and the day admission to the baths, so choose another week for it.
Lucerne in December
Lake Lucerne in December is a city and museum season more than a mountain season. The Pilatus winter fare for the railways from Kriens runs from December to April and is 60 CHF for adults. Titlis stays on its replacement route until 11.12.2026, so check which ride you get.
Museums keep their own opening times around Christmas and New Year. The Sammlung Rosengart is open daily from 11 to 17 from 01.11. to 31.12.2026 and closed on 25.12. The Kunstmuseum Luzern is closed on 24, 25 and 31.12.2026. The Bourbaki Panorama is open from 10 to 14 on 24 and 31.12.2026 and closed on 25.12. See Lucerne museums for more.

The Lucerne carnival, Fasnacht, was held from 12 to 17 February 2026 according to the city guide of 2025. We give it only as a past example and do not list future dates. Look up the next dates with the organisers before planning around it.
